The University of Gastronomic Sciences of Pollenzo (Italy)
Founded in 2004 at the initiative of Slow Food, the University of Gastronomic Sciences of Pollenzo (UNISG) is the world’s first university entirely dedicated to the interdisciplinary study of food.
Dynamic and highly international, UNISG welcomes a diverse student community, with representatives from over 100 countries throughout its more than twenty years of activity. This rich mix of experiences, cultures, and opportunities is what sets the university apart, making it a unique institution in the academic landscape—not just in Italy, but globally.
The originality of its educational offerings attracts students from all over the world, drawn to a curriculum that integrates academic study, hands-on practice, and educational travel. This innovative approach provides a global perspective on food systems, both past and present, and highlights the value of cultural diversity.
In Pollenzo, a unique professional figure takes shape: the gastronome or food specialist. An expert in understanding, promoting, and enhancing food diversity, their role is essential in driving innovation in the sector and supporting the transition toward more environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable food systems. As specialists in food sovereignty, these professionals help build participatory and culturally conscious models capable of addressing the future challenges of food.
